STRIVE Mentoring is a partnership between Stillwater Area High School's AVID program and the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club. Community members such as business leaders, retired professionals, and caring adults volunteer their time to encourage, inspire and broaden student perspectives. The program emphasizes attendance, success in the classroom and service to the community. The scholarship money comes from fundraisers the Rotary Club conducts in Stillwater including the new Bridge the Valley bike rally in August.
Two of the scholarships are being provided by Anne Simonet and her late husband's friends who each year have an Ed Simonet Memorial Golf Tournament.
"Eddie" Simonet was a member of the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club. He was born and raised in Stillwater, and stayed here all of his life, serving the people and the community as an attorney. Ed served clients that many attorney's would not and cared for them beyond their legal issues. In the words of recently passed County Attorney Pete Orput, "Ed lived a life that matters."
