A new fishing pier was installed on the north side of Mckusick Lake, near the intersection of McKusick Road and Amundson Drive. The project was lead by the Mckusick Lake Association, working with the DNR’s Fishing in the Neighborhood Program with funding support from the Stillwater Sunrise and Noon Rotary Clubs. Thank you to member Roger Ruetten for leading the effort from our Club.
“Our city staff, the McKusick Lake Association and the Rotary Club did a fantastic job” said City Council Member Mike Polehna. “That fishing pier is beautiful. I want to pass on our thank you. It’s a beautiful addition to our community.”
On the morning of August 26, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially open the fishing pier. President Steve Madsen even had a few minutes to wet a line.

Called the Youth Alcohol and Drug Prevention (YADP) Program, its goal is to bring a higher level of community commitment and involvement in the effort to stop an ever-growing problem of alcohol and drug abuse by our community’s young people.

The Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club teamed up with the Rotary Club of Lakeville, the Sao Gotardo Rotary Club and the Rotary Foundation to help open a dental clinic in Brazil.
This project originated from our friendship with former Youth Exchange Student, Ariana Rodrigues (2004-05). The project was to help fund a much needed dental clinic in Brazil. The Sao Gotardo Rotary Club initiated the Rotary International grant and Stillwater Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Lakeville were happy to participate.
The total project cost was $20,046.80
Stillwater Sunrise contributed $3,341.13
Lakeville put in $500
Sao Gotardo, Brazil put in $6,682.26
The Rotary Foundation made up the difference on the project at $9,523.41
The clinic's grand opening was set for June 17, 2011.
"We are all very proud of the accomplishment and we are thankful for your huge help!" Ariana Rodrigues

On behalf of the Social Justice Committee at Boutwell's Landing, we greatly appreciate the participation of Sunrise Rotary in our Community Outdoor Social on Friday, Sept. 10th. I hope you enjoyed meeting our Residents, and that you were able to have some fruitful conversations and to distribute your materials.
The weather cooperated and the two Barbershop quartets from the Croix Chordsmen Chorus were enthusiastic and well received.
We started the day with 200 ice cream cones donated by Kowalski's and run out at 3:45. Subtracting staff and volunteers from the 23 organizations with tables and displays, we can safely say that about 170 Residents attended the Event.
I am attaching a few pictures also.
Thanks again,
Dick Engdahl

In December, 2006, our club joined with the Pune Tilak Road Club in Pune India in a project to provide household water filters to approximately 40 more households in the village of Bhukum near Pune, India. A member of our club met with representatives of the Prabodh company and provided club funds to subsidize the purchase of 40 filters, for distribution in Bhukum early in 2007.
Residents pay half the cost of the filters, so they are invested in the success of the program. These filters are distributed through a community self-help group that the Pune club supports that includes medical, computer literacy and micro-finance operations.
Here Rotarian Ted Nesse of the Stillwater Sunrise club, and Dileep Kanhere, president of the Pune Tilak Road Rotary club present a filter to one of the recipients.
On March 1, 2007, a member of our club visited Bhukum to celebrate the distribution of the 40 water filters.

Jason shared with us his experience doing the Winter Plunge along with two other brave Rotarians, Ken McGinley and Jeff Nelson. Nearly $2000 was raised with about $1400 going directly to our club. He showed us some still pictures of the three amigos jumping into the frigid water and then, courtesy of Jerry O'Connell the lone Stillwater Rotarian who cheered them on, we saw the video of the actual JUMP...purple wigs and all!! Looks like it was lots of fun and all for a good cause.

At this year's annual club picnic, Club President Mark Fisher welcomed back Abbie Huntley who was our clubs first outbound exchange student. Abbie spent last year in Luitterhausen in Northern Germany. We also said bon voyage to Laura Mueller who returned to Germany to finish two more years in school. He presented each a certificate, donating enough money to The Rotary Foundation in their name to vaccinate a number of children around the world.
Mark also presented a similar certificate to Craig Leiser for the great job he did as District Governor. Craig - thank you very much for the job well done over the past year and making our Club proud to call you a member.
Finally, Dave Langer and his oldest daughter Kaitlin won the coveted Bolo Championship.
It was a great evening at Pioneer Park.
